After Crate & Barrel announced that the second-place winners of their Ultimate Wedding contest were gay, they go on to include a gay couple in their wedding registry advertisement. My fabulous friend Mikaela found this and excitedly texted it to me.
Whether its H&M’s gay-friendly photo display, or Holt Renfrew’s gay Valentine’s mannequin display, gay couples are finding greater and greater exposure in mainstream marketing efforts. And without the need to point out “oooh it’s a gay couple”, or “here’s a separate set of ads for your gay magazine or pride event”. We’re just all mixed in with the rest of them.
Of course, it doesn’t hurt that if you’re registering at Crate & Barrel, 9 times out of 10 you’re definitely gay.
