Project Blue Sky is my hometown Calgary’s answer to the It Gets Better Project, and so much more. I have the honour of being one of its video participants, and this time, I’ll do better than introduce myself and sit around in silence looking awkward for about half a minute.

The project involves a short film of encouraging messages to LGBT youth, and lends a relatable, local flavour. You can see me in the green hoodie at 0:55, and only in retrospect to I realise I may have unconsciously thrown in an homage to Ke$ha’s “We R Who We R” in that clip.

The darling founder, Morgan Worth (seen right after me in the trailer), even invited me to a radio interview as a participant Monday, and I added my halting two cents. It’s all ramping up to the film’s release party this Saturday at Club Sapien from 6:30-9.

It’s all been kept under wraps, so I have absolutely no idea what I said since my only recollection of my participation was sitting in a large, dark studio in front of cameras and bright lights incoherently rambling in an attempt to please the dark silhouettes staring at me. In that respect it was kind of like the time I was probed by alien abductors. Only without the probing; you can imagine my disappointment.

You can bet I’ll show the world my video debut once I get my hands on it (and I suppose also because it’s such an important initiative), but until then you’ll find me on Saturday nervously wondering what in the world I said, and do I really sound like that, because the voice I hear in my head sounds nothing like that strange person on screen.

It’ll be great.
